I think some of the problem with the gas caps are people over tightening them...Only problem I have had was some of the silvering flaking off the gauge but I found a new one on eBay for $25

I've had the flush mount set on my Softail for over a year now with no issues. Everything works fine. One thing I did notice, for my particular bike was the part # for the gauges has a "D" behind it, indicating that HD is/was aware of issues with their product.
The "D" indicates it's the fourth revision or fourth engineering of the set. For my 2006 FXSTI the HD Part # is: 62818-06D The 06 part of the number indicates when HD put the part on the market. 2006....And again, the D is the fourth edition.
I am careful when I tighten the fuel cap, trying not to be like a gorilla when putting it back on. When I wash my bike I take extra care to keep water off and out of the gauges. I take a sandwich baggie and use painters tape to cover the gauges. I also use plastic garbage bags and cover my saddle bags before I turn the hose on her. I also put a little plastic bag on my leather fork bag.

I think mine went on in 08. And the LED went out within 6 months. The caps busted 2 or 3 times and its gettin frustrating. Any of yalls gas cap sit above the trim ring or all yalls pretty flush?

The first generation of these fuel guages were crap, however the new generation ones are much better.

I've thought about getting these too but $200 and no guarantee on them working correctly, not so sure now.

I've had mine for a couple of years, no issues. They look great compared to the big gauge and cap that come from factory. I would recommend them to anyone. It's a 10 minute install if you cut the connector off the original or 20 minutes if you struggle to take the connector apart and take the gas gauge out intact.
