i purchased separately. i like the windscreen and yes i got the king size. let my wife pick the sissy-bar and pad. i picked the rack. and yes you have to have the rear relocation light kit to mount the detachable side plates. I dont have the cover or the belt buckle. i know you can get a better cover cheaper the one in the kit is not waterproof. but it was far less to buy each part i wanted rather than the kit. plus dont forget tot he deshabille's lock so you dont loss it.

I got the kit, but probably wouldn't have if I read this thread. I like the sissy bar and how easy it detaches. The windshield is fine but I plan on moving the lights so I'm probably screwed on that. I never took the bike cover out of the bag. So I now think I wasted some money.....

For the cover, I got a Dowco Guardian All weather cover. plain black and grey. Works great in all weather and... well, kicks alot of ***. Doesnt draw alot of attention to the bike either. To the average person walking by, it could be a Harley, or a Honda under that cover.

BTW loader, what nacelle are you using for your headlight and who makes your bars?

Order what you want, not what HD wants you to have. Rider's essential my butt! Nobody from Harley has ever gone on a ride with me so how would they know what is essential to my riding style? Make the bike your own.

Although I ordered all thesimilar stuff, it was not from the essentials kit. I have:

rigid sissy bar (and the needed side plates)
fender rack (on order) #53896-06
backrest pad
low-rise (smoke) detachable windshield #51640-06

I didn't care about the bike cover or belt buckle. The main reason I stayed away from the detachable sissy bar and fender rack is that they require modification to your rear turn signals. The lightsget moved back a bit and placed on different posts. The stock posts are wing-like and slope nicely out to the signal housing. You end up with a round peg that they mount the lights to after they make room for the studs that the detachable bar/rack slide on top of.

I'm staying away from saddlebags, instead I have a Boss Bag (#65) that will permanently mount to the fender rack and go everywhere I go. I also just got the 08 anniversary tool pouch that mounts onthe inside of thewindshield and islevel with the handlebars (re-using an acorn nut on the W/S frame).

Since my version of "needed" storage is something I will use everyday, I leaned away from the detachable rear components that I just figured would never come off.

Good luck with YOUR version of accessories! What color are you ordering?

I like the way you put things Steve Good advice and I will NOT get it now after reading this thread. Best thing about the kit was that everything was together and I didn't have to look up a million different part numbers. I don't know why HD doesn't have complete kits for all their backrests. I am sure I will forget to order something I need when I finally get around to ordering one!

You've been quite on here of late... you been doing a lot of riding ?

Cheers,
DeanO

ORIGINAL: vertigo14

do not purchase that pos kit

the only thing worth while... is the f'n stupid belt buckle

the windshield is way to large for a kickn fatboy and if u modified the front end with aux lights or nacelle.. it wont even fit anyhoo
the detachable sissy bar and pad are nothing special.. and the rack... why bother, if u want them pick n choose ur own..
u get a cover for the bike.. with a big HD logo on it.. which screams STEAL ME...or LOOK UNDER ME.. worthless
u get a set of turn relocation things that most likely you wont even use.. depending on the bags ur using.. because they arnt for bags.. they only for the detachable sissy

Waste of a grand of us dollars

Thanks Mimo... looks like that is the general consensus. Glad I asked before ordering!

Hehehehe... yeah!! That and the RSVP dates are keeping me busy I will take a look. I have a bad habit of NOT clicking on the "notify me of reply" thing when I post so I miss a lot of my replies... I will take a look now, thanks!

Hey take a look at the link below. It is a guy in Brisbane who did Skullsnflames bike... he does GREAT work. When I get my money for a domain name I just sold I will be sending my bits up North to get him to paint them. I am thinking of airbrushed William Wallace (Braveheart) on candy apple green or something along those lines... hopefully will turn out as nice as the Freddy Kruger bike airbrushing.
