Default 1988 softail custom rear lights issue

Looking for some advice. I have an 88 softail and my brake light is no longer working. The running light works but no brake light with either the front or rear. Also my blinkers in the back won't light up. My headlight works fine in high/low, and my blinkers in the front light up but won't blink. Thank you.

I have an `89 Softail, the electrical system is virtually identical to your bike other than some front lighting. I think I could draw the wiring diagram from memory after 31 years...

Find the rear brake light switch, remove the wires and touch them together (ign. switch on), does the brake light come on?

Inspect the harness that runs underneath the rear fender, these things get beat up sometimes.

Follow the harness forward and find the connector, unplug it and check voltages at each terminal on the main harness side of the connector.

Blue wire is run lights, should be on when ign switch is on.
Red is brake light.
Brown is Right Turn.
Violet is Left Turn.

Is the horn working?

Is your bike lowered? The wires run under the fender, very common for the tire to rub on the wires and cause a short or break them completely. Good luck.

I'll check that when I get home, I peaked at the wires under the fender yesterday and they looked good, plus I have aftermarket blinkers and those wires run down the frame supports on outside of fender. Thanks for the advice, ill update once I look more.

The blinkers have been on there for a few years with no problems, I checked the switch by putting the wires together and nothing. Then I checked the harness and only the blue wire for the running lights had power, the other three wires were dead.i checked the relay and circuit breaker that's in front of the rear tire fender under the battery and they were fine. And my horn isn't working but it wasn't really working that great before either.

Check the aux circuit breaker after 32 years it might have decided to die.

Here are the ignition (gray wire), lights (blue wire), and accessory(orange wire) circuit breakers, they are just below the ignition switch. Below the circuit breakers is the turn signal flasher (round).

Check for voltage at each stud on the accessory breaker.
