Lot`s of people here have many years experience as professional mechanics (50 years pro, 45 as A&P), and we don`t all agree on everything.

Hmm, seems like most people here thinks the yellow is enough, also found some inscructions from Harley using these bolts (sprocket for a Dyna) and it said that the newer bolts with the yellow stuff don't need extra loctite. I'll go for that. Thanks to everyone that gave input!

Been working on and building bikes since the 70’s including time at a couple dealers and Indy shops. Ran one out of my garage for years. Most that time on harleys.

I personally and just my opinion think that is why the service manual says to replace them. The replacements have that dried Loctite. I know good and well that aluminum hub does not stretch or hurt the original grade 8 bolts. I would use a Loctite primer in the threads to wash out of all grease. If you do not have that, use lacquer thinner. I personally think the dry threads and friction going in activate it.
If the original bolts look good, I just use Primer T 7471 to clean and permanent grad 35 Loctite on that drive pulley. I use Loctite Medium 242 or rotors.

Ha guys, when it comes to Manufacturer questions, I always go to the source. In my career, I worked for 3 years with a title on my hat Work Methods. Three years was dedicated to working with Engineering, our Four Machine Shops, and our Supplier Company Engineers. .

This is an answer from Loctite engineer Arif Mehmedovic. Interesting but Arif did not think it was their product. They do have a form in tape.

Hello XXXXXX,
Been a while. If there is a product already on the bolt it will not properly work as whatever that yellow product is on there will create a barrier between the Loctite and bolt.
