Is it me, or is Harley REALLY reaching now with this anniversary ? I mean - come on - a 105th anniversary? Am I the only one who thinks this is a stretch? I understand the big anniversary's - 25th - 50th - 100th, but the 105th ?? Personally I think it's lame.
NOT trying to trash your new ride Paul, I think it's beautiful, I just think it's wrong for Harley to call it an anniversary edition.

I'll be honest (and agree), Harley celebrating 105 years (1903-2008) of producing motorcycles may be a bit lame. They have, however, decided to produce a limited quanty ofanniversary models across their product line and make a big deal about it. ONLY the anniversarybikes will have the copper trimmings for most of their models. You can't get copper any other way unless you buy one of those anniversary bikes. My dealer had just received (1) Fatboy, (1) Heritage, and (1) Sportster1200 Custom, eachdressed in copper.
The serialized placard they are putting on the consoles reveal that specific's bike ranking (birth) out of their projected build quantity for any given model. I'm quite sure each model will have a different "quantity" assigned to production. For 2008 anniversary fatboys, mine is #222 out of 4000 anniversary fatboy models to be built. They will have (obviously) many other fatboys manufactured but those won't be tracked for us consumers to see unless you can figure it out from the vin number. Heritage and Sportsters (for example) will have their own maximum limits built.
It would be great to see a list from somebody "in the know" that could reveal target build numbers for the variety of anniversary models. For example, some less popular models (if there is such a thing) may have an anniversary limit of 500, 1000, etc.
On a positive note, my hat is off to any company that is remaining profitable and "in business" after 105 years. None of us know whether or not Harley will celebrate 110 years (but probably), 125 years; I'm sure, but those in-between milestones 115, 120, who knows. Most likely will depend how successful their "105 year" program succeeds. Limited quantities are just that, limited, regardless of occasion. Realistically, they made model improvements (speaking/knowing only about the fatboys), have a unique color offering (read awsome), and no other production bike builder can hold a candle to what all of you already know, and I am just beginning to experience.
Cheers everone!

You absolutely right about Harley's longevity factor Poorboy, and again, I didn't mean to dissrespect you or your choice at all ( which as I'll say again I LOVE the colors ) but 105th anniversary ... I just don't see the reason.
HOWEVER
Since you WILL be gettin an anniversary and you already know what number you'll be getting, I think it would be badd azz to have the number 222 on your license plate !! If i were you, I'd order it now ( if you can )
Again ... Best of luck with it !!

Hey Mayfair-You were notdissrespectful and no offense taken. Great idea to get a custom license plate. I'm going to look into it for sure! I get 6 characters to work with, so I'm thinking "FB-222" (for Florida).
BTW, I moved down here to Central Florida from Bucks County (Langhorne). I see you're from Philly.
Cheers!
