Default 2006 heritage bags

I just bought a new 2006 Heritage Softail Classic!!!! The dealer tells me that the 2006 bags are reinforced with metal rods to help prevent sagging. Does anyone know if this works or should I still invest in "Got Saggy Bags"? I want to prevent the problem before it starts.

I was told the same thing...and had an opportunity to see and '05 and an '06 at the same place...
The bags on the '06 did appear "stiffer", without the common sag between the buckles.

hmmm...MOCO...proactively fixing something and not charging extra for it???....whats the world coming to

Was the metal rods within the Leather or could you see them. My 05 bags are starting to go already and it seems that if HD are using a few steel rods then it would be easy to knock some up rather than spend an extortionate amount of money on the Fibre inserts.

pwhog,
I didn't open the bags, I should have thought of that...

I was just standing there talking to the sales guy and he mentioned it...the two bikes were accross the floor from each other, but the '05 definately had a little sag..

Annie,
can you tell if your bags have metal reinforcements?

Hell, the bags on my '05 Heritage were saggy when I picked her up new at the dealer!

I guess it is kinda like the "pre-washed jeans" effect... Pre-sagged for my Convenience...

I bought a 2006 heritage and the bags get a little deformed, so I paid my dues and just ordered the $119 package from gotsaggybags.com. I seen other bikes with them and I would recommend it.

Just got my saggy bags kit in the mail yesterday. My buddy is giving me his wood form he cut to reinforce the lid support while you glue it down. Looks pretty simple to do and the bags look great once they are installed.

If I were the MOCO, knowing the love of the almighty dollar[:@], they could make it a factory or dealer option to get these installed. They could make the money instead of the aftermarket. [8D]

www.bagbones.com has a set of lid stiffeners for about $54.00 shipping included. Installed them on an '05 Heritage. May not work on the '06. These are aluminum strips bent into a 'L' and inserted behind the strap rivits. They take the sag out of the outside edge but will not do much for the rest of the bag. The only problem I have is keeping them in when I raise the lid sometimes. Maybe some double sided tape on the mounting tabs to hold them in place would work.
