Default Air Cleaner

I'm going to be doing a Stage I mod ( V & H strightshot II or SEII Slip pipes), rejet, and a high flow air cleaner. I'm undecided between the Screaming Eagle Hi Flow Cleaner and the K & N Air Cleaner kit. What's the differance between the two? Any recommendations from you guys in the know.

I don't think there is much difference. The SE kit has a K&N filter in it. From what I've read from people who should know, the SE has flow that is on par with the best of the high flow filters. I went with the SE on my ElectraGlide.

Regards,

Bill

I just upgraded my 05 FLSTF with the V&H 2-1 Pro Pipe and used a HD Sceaming Eagle aircleaner - after rejetting it runs great. I can't see how the K&N Filter would make a difference - maybe because you can clean it rather than replacing as is the case for the HD one.

I also went with the SE ac and a remap, bike run's great now but I'd say there is very little if any in the element's.

I've always been partial to the Arlen Ness Big sucker, and you can still fit factory air filter covers on.

Thanks for the info guys, I think I'm going to go with the SEII pipes and SE Hi Flow AC on my 04 Heritage for now. Maybe I'll get full stright pipes down the road. From what I hear, the above should give me a little more of that "Harly Sound", more so then stock.

"billnourse" is partially correct. The S-E air cleaner kits *did* package a K&N oiled fabric element.
However, H-D has been changing some of the kits as of late, and are replacing the K&N with a washable, but non-oiled element.
You can tell what you're buying by looking at the rubber gasket on the element. The new gasket is blue, and is not wrapped in a K&N branded bag.

Is the K&N a better filter element than (whatever)?
It's a controversial topic. Suffice to say, there is considerable evidence to indicate K&N's do flow more air. But....allow more dirt into the motor.
Pay your money and take your chances!
