Default 5K Service aproaching

The 5000 mile service will be needed soon and I'm thinking about tackling it myself, what all is performed on this 5000 mile service?? What's a ballpark figure on what a dealer charges for this service?

That (could) jeopardize your warranty among other things .

Your owner's manual will show what happens at 5,000. If you don't have one, you can go to the Harley website, enter yourVIN and it will show you. Prices for the dealer to do the service vary, but you should expect to fork out $200 - $300. If I were you and you are at least a little mechanically inclined, spend $50 and get an HD service manual for your bike and do the 5,000 yourself.

This wouldn't be an issue since my bike is an '04 and I believe no longer has a warranty ( I guess I better make sure )

YOUR RIGHT ON THE PRICE TAG OF THE 5,000 INSPECT. DO IT YOUR SELF, I DID, AND IF I CAN DO IT ANYONE CAN. THE ONLY THING YOUR GOING TO NEED IS THE OIL AND A FILTER. I ALSO CHANGED THE TRANS OIL AT THE SAME TIME. I GOT THE HD SYN OIL OUT OF THE TRANY AND PUT THE REAL GEAR OIL IN IT.

I do not believe the dealer or any "qualified" machanic has to do the service work to uphold your warrnaty. Just keep reciepts and records of work done......

I'll be ordering the service manual from the dealership tomorrow let's see how long it takes for them to get it.

Seems like it. In California, dealers seem to get away with charging more that this.

I went to an independent shop with a certified HD tech and it was 285. Would have been more at a CA dealer.

Come on, ya'll. If you shelled out 20K+ for the damn thing, spend the dealer money to get the service right and take advantage of the moment to work the hell out of the warranty for anything that is bugging you. The longer you stay away from the doctor, the less they will take responsibility for your bikes 'health'.

You know what I am saying? Don't give the dealer a reason to blow you off in the critical 2 Yr period.

Perfect records are just that, perfect. Hard to challenge.

Eddie
