It's not that hard, there's how to videos on YouTube. I think it shortens the life of the pipes, especially near the heads. If I were wrapping mine I'd leave the first 3 or 4 inches unwrapped to vent the heat.

You Tube is your answers, totally a DIY project. Wear rubber gloves, it gets messy. Good luck.
