Unless $20k means nothing to you, I highly agree with the 'start with something cheaper' crowd. Get a 10 year old Honda shadow or something similar for a couple grand. Drop it all you like. If you still have the itch in a year the softails aren't going anywhere. If you're dead set on a new bike NOW, then go to any HD dealer and test ride them both then pick your winner. Asking this crowd which one to buy would be like asking if you should marry a blonde or brunette. You'll get lots of great answers but none will be applicable to your situation. Besides, everybody knows redheads are the best.

What all is involved/covered in an advanced riders class? How is it put on? Where are they available?

Off topic - riders courses:

MSF- Motorcycle Safety Foundation offers a lot of different courses. Link below.

I actually took 16 hrs advanced rider at local HD.... years ago... maybe $160. Show up with own bike and gear and they run you through drills on your bike. Nothing crazy. It was up to individuals to test themselves... some were timid, others pushed their bikes.

Experience comes from the street.... but the street isn't the place to learn.

You can always go Heritage, and do everything the Fatboy and the Deluxe does, and then some without the added cost of bags and windshield, but hey, I'm a little bias.

I gotta say the Deluxe. I just don't like the rear fender of the new Fatty. But I do love the bigger tire. The Deluxe is a GORGEOUS & timeless style.
