Istalling my apes right now. How tight??
How tight are the four riser clamps sposed to be? The service Manual calls for 12 to 15 ft pounds. Its already at that (im using a torque wrench) but yetthe barsstill move with the lightes grab. Im installing wild1 18" Chubby apes with chubby 1.5" risers. HELP!!!!! Should I tighten it more? how much more? I really dont want to strip the new risers. HELP!!!!!

Im not pulling hard on he bars but with 15 ft lbs i still have a big gap in front and back, ill try 20. see if that closes the gap. I dont think they are 1 1/4 , I think it wound be way to big and not grip at all.thanx guys!!!
Any more suggestions? Any one ever had their apes break of while ridin?

I just put my riser clamps back and you gotta be careful, sort of do all 4 together, shouldn't be any gap at the front and a small one at the back, or they should all be the same.
The apes will obviously have a lot more play than a drag, I'd put enough poundage on so that they don't move at all.
Personally, that would **** me off if my bars moved, ....hell, even in the slightest. I'd forget the poundage and just make them tight enough not to move under normal usage.

Tighten each one a little at a time just like you would the lug nuts on a car. You should try to get the gaps as close to the same as you can, especially if you are using a stock one piece risercap. I have experienced my apes cracking in half right down the middle because of my risers moving too much. If you haven't, USE POLYURETHANE RISERBUSHINGS! The stock rubber bushings just can't handle the torque of those tall bars. Also, tighten the capsas much as it takes. When I first installed my bars they were rotating because the risers were just barely too wide to fit between the fatter part of the bars on the 1" portion. This caused them to be pushed in toward eachother just slightly. It made them not grip the bar well enough no matter how hard I tightened them. That could beyour problem. I wound up having to shave a little off the sides so they would clear without being pushed in at all. Hope this helps. But, even if thatdoesn't fix it, be sure to use the polyurethane bushings. You are wasting your time without them. Good luck!

I did use POLYURETHANE RISERBUSHINGS. I ended up torquing to 3o + got it down pretty tight and it fixed the problem. Took it out last night for a test ride, SWEET!!!! Love them apes. As soon as i do the front brake i'll post some pics. Thanx everyone!!!
