The heat will allow the removal of red threadlocker, with much less force, than if you try to just muscle through it.....!

I bought a Sears thread chaser kit (not the same as tap & die kits) several years ago. I clean every thread and bolt that I take apart, before reassembly.

I read about using a thread chaser on another, tech motorcycle forum, that I read. The cleaned bolts allow for the proper torque when using a torque wrench, and allow you to use the correct type, and amount, of threadlocker when needed. This has turned out to be the most used tool in my home shop..

I picked up this heat gun off CL for $40 in like new condition..It doesn't get them cherry red like a torch but so far it has works fine with the narrow nozzle for heating up thread locker and corroded bolts with Liquid Wrench to break them loose.

Default It helps...

I got the passenger foot pegs removed. I had H & K Cycles in Livermore, CA to loosen the bolts and I only paid what it would have cost for a good quality 3 inch 45 Torx. It pays to have the right tools. I was using cheap tools, which broke. Not anymore!
The saddle bag guards look great!

Glad you got it done. Looks better huh? I'll put mine back on as needed, but won't run with them very often.

Great advice. And for heating the bolt, it's easiest to use an electric hot air gun as you can heat it up nice and gradually and not worry about burning any paintwork.

Thread chasing kits are an excellent investment - especially if you are rebuilding an old (or building a new) bike.

I also swear by a three foot, half inch breaker bar and good quality sockets.

Heat, good tools and gentle but powerful application of torque will sort most things.

I'm thinking the same thing--quick trip to the dealer and pay a mechanic on his lunch break to do what I can't seem to do on my own with my tools.

Default Update!! Removing Heritage Classic Passenger pegs

Has anyone had success in removing the bolts for passenger foot pegs on a 2018 Harley-Davidson Heritage Classic? Any suggestion to remove the bolts for the passenger foot pegs?
Star bolts for the passenger foot pegs.
After searching endlessly and not getting one straight simple answer! I follow! Simple under no circumstances use a standard T40 as you will strip the head! Then the job becomes a pain as you will have to drill out the bolt!! To keep it simple! Get yourself. TorksPlus T45 and an impact gun! Heat the peg till it’s gets hot to the touch! Once it’s hot! Hit the bolt with the impact gun and TorxPlus T45! It will spin out in a jiffy! Take note the TorxPlus T40 shaft must be at least 4 inches long! If using a 1/2 driver! Following this suggested procedure it took me a jiffy 5 minutes to remove the original passenger foot pegs and install my new Footboards!
