Gas cap rattle

Gas cap rattle
Today I was out on my 2018 Lowrider. I don't usually ride it hard but today was a bit of an exception. Today I noticed when upshifting at over 4000 rpm I was hearing a loud raspy noise when I got off the throttle to upshift. I first thought that I had a real issue and was very concerned that was until I realized that the noise was the gas cap rattling during shifting at rpms higher that 4000 rpm. Imagine my relief when I realized the noise was only the gas cap.

My Deluxe has the same problem & had my local HD agent note it on file last week for rectification when/should a fix become available . Tis annoying and hard to believe they could get something so basic WRONG! Walked onto the show room floor and was NO different on the floor stock . Here’s hoping!

common problem for sure, along with the condensation under the speedo glass. I have both issues. for the fuel cap, I flipped it over on some soft cloth, took a hammer and flathead screwdriver and punched the inner lip of the chrome looking piece down so it doesn't spin freely (and vibrate).. simplest way to fix it, and it works. I hate the look and feel of the cheap stock caps.

after 2 warranty replacements did the same thing, I used some channel locks to crimp the metal rim above the o-ring. now it is quiet. I find it almost unfathomable, given Harley's problems, that they haven't fixed this yrs old problem. sometimes I think they are blinded by a captive market that existed until a few yrs ago. same with the oil breather/air cleaner puking. no other manufacturer has the problem, and they all need to breathe from the crankcase. It makes you wonder..............
