Default Bags for '06 FLST

Hello all,

My next purchase for my '06 FLST Heritage Softailwill be passenger boards and bags. Getting the chrome passenger boards from HD. Just wondering how the Heritage bags from HD hold up. I think I'll be getting the Bubbas quick release. Or would I be better off getting some other brand of saddlebags? I thought I'd order the bags from Chicago Harley and get the 20% discount and save on taxes. But if I am disappointed after a year or two, I'd rather get some other good quality bags.

Thanks for any input.

Kent

I don't have them personally but a friend at work has had his on for 7 years. They look great. They were becomminga little faded; he re-dyed them himself - turned out like brand new. Has a lot to do with how you store your bike and care for the leather. Another guy I ride with has had his for 2 yrs - look like crap.

I have an 06 FLST. I bought HD bags(not heritage) when I got the bike. They are small springer bags they look good. But if I new then what I know now...I would go with after market bags with detachable mounts. I paid 650.00 for bags and hard mounts. The bags stickout to far from the bike and dont hold very much. The Heritage bags look great (see em everywhere thats one reason I would buy something different aftermarket) but I think you can get a better bag and mounts for less money than going with HD.

Hey guys I couldn't let a thread about 06 FLST pass by without adding my 2 cents....and it is just that...my 2 cents. Why anyone would put bags on this remarkable looking bike is beyond me. Of course it is your bike and your choice! Please don't start voting for the baggers on the BOTM. Love my FLST also. Ride...ride...Ride.

I put the Harley Detachable bags on mine and love them. They are big enough to hold alot of gear and yet aren't bulky. The leather is very thick so I don't see them ripping or tarring anytime soon. The kit came with all hardware needed including black poshish to recoat any marking and a leather protector. The only other hardware I had to order was because I also have a detachable sissybar on the bike, but there again it was a straight forward mounting job.

I'm of the same opinions as Forvols - If I knew then what I know now... I bought the HD ridgid locking bags because I need to lock up everything when I park the bike at work. Now I know I could have gone after market and bought some locking bags for a lot less than the HD price! Live & Learn!

Aftermarket bags will probably be cheaper so its worth looking around.I have an 04 heritage softail classic and obviously got my bags as standard and they have held up pretty well.3yrs old now and they still look good as gold.

I have found that the after market bags are more expensive. I believe the Heritage bags are $699, maybe 799 - then %20 off. Boss bags, iron bags and leather pros are all pretty expensive. I'm really looking for quality and good value. When you throw in detachable hardware from Bubba's - another $175.

Thanks for all the response. Still not positive what path I'll take. I keep going back and forth on what to buy.

Thanks.
