Default Dunlop GT 502 180/60 B17 Install

[:@]OK I have done some reserch on the subject of putting the 180 Dunlop tire in place of the stock 160 on my 2002 Duece. I have heard a few people say there are no mods nessecary but I need some more proof or hard evidence that it will fit with no mods. I have been putting off buying the tire but now I MUST replace the tire cus it's almost bald. I need to hear from some people who have actually done this. The stock tire is supposed to be 6.48 in. wide & the 180 is 7.18 in. wide, that leaves .350 in. clearance on each side needed. this is pretty much going to touch the belt, maybe not. Has anybody shaved a little of the rubber off the edge of the tire? I heard of this being done but since I have not seen the Dunlop 180 I don't know if there is a rib that sticks out like the 160 stock tire. Since I really have to move my *** & get this tire replaced I would appreciate any help ASAP thanks, Jeff

According to Harley you will need the following.

Wide Tire Kit For Softail® Deuce™ Models

Add the wide tire look to your Softail® Deuce™ model. First offered on the '04 Screamin' Eagle® Deuce™ model, this 180mm width rear tire fills out the rear fender and adds a menacing look from the rear. The kit includes sprocket spacer hub, black-finish rear brake caliper, Dunlop®/Screamin' Eagle® 17" GT502 180/60B17 Rear Tire and required hardware.

44075-04

Fits '00-later FXSTD models. Installation requires separate purchase of Wide Softail® Swingarm P/N 47637-04 or 47090-04BHP.

The only thing you got going is your rim width is 4.5" the GT502 is specially made for the 4.5".

If that thing is close enough you have to shave it, which I think is totally crazy, the sidewall flex is still goint to rub.

I have one on my stock 2004 FXSTD Deuce. You have to remove the lower plastic drive belt guard and leave it off. The rear tire axle tensioners have to be adjusted perfectly so the wheel is straight. the drive belt ends up being real close to the tire rib. So close you can barely fit 3 playing cards between them. Sometimes the drive belt may scrape the rib when rolling the bike backwards but that is no problem.

I have almost 9K miles on my 502 Tire since I put it on. Another thing I would like to add is the 502 is a soft compound tire and wears quickly. the matching 21" screamin eagle front tire is susceptible to ballooning out in the middle tread. Keeping the proper air pressure in these tires is key to longevity.

I just bought a 2007 Deuce and I may go with a different tire brand for the 180 size like an Avon Storm Ultra 2. Anyone have any experience with these?

I have the deuce wheel on my 93 fxst. I thought it was 4.25 wide an a 170 was the max width, if a 180 will fit the rim I may try a night dragon on it.

Default Dunlop 502

I have a 2004 deuce with 502 front and rear. I have the 180-60-17 on rear and yes I had to do a wide tire kit to adjust the pulley with a spacer or it rubbed. I also have the suspension lowered all the way down since I’m only 5’5.

Note this weekend my new 502 rear tire nearly killed me. Tire went flat while high speeds on freeway. There is bad issue with the left side of the tread. It is at dealership for further inspection. It was super scary. The tread on that side has cracks and chunky looking. I plan to call Dunlop to discuss. I used to use 402 on the bike but there is a class action lawsuit over multiple fatalities for similar issues with those tires.

anyobe rose have issues with 502 tire with u set 1,000 miles of purchase? Please let me know ASAP sdbikerchick at aol dot com.

Thanks.
