RE: Standard price
HELL how do you know if you bought a lemon or not? I have had 5 FAT BOYS I like to trade every other year but I bought 05 15th Anniversery 95 C.I. and at 400 miles started leaking oil from where the cases come together!! They said they would have to tear the motor completly apart and keep it 2 weeks!! It only leaked when I rode it, so rode to another HARLEY shop and traded for 06 SCREMIN EAGLE fat boy 103, I took a beating on trade but did not want a bikethat was going to betorn apart! to me that is not new, but was going to sell current bike but funds came together, so I'm keeping this one for long time!! But you do not buy a HARLEY for re-sell value! THATS NOT FUN the fun is riding it and take care of it, go buy a JAP (METRIC) bike and ride around block then go in side and see how much they will give youfor it! Look at N.A.D.A. motorcycle values and you can see what a standard is worth, all I can say is be safe and have fun riding it. PURPLE HAZE.

RE: Standard price
I don't think you would be able to sell a Softail Standard for more than you paid for it unless there was someone who really wanted a Standard because they're no longer available. A lot of times people buy the Standard as an entry level bike into the Softail lineup. I don't mean thatin a bad way. It's just the lowest priced Softail. Most people buy a Standard and then chrome out everything over time to make it look like a Custom. A Softail Custom is not a whole lot more than a Standard. So I don't think the typical market would pay almost as much for a used Standard as they would a new Custom unless they really wanted a discontinued model.
