Flush mount gas cap maintenance
Went to fill up and gas cap would not pop up. Something stuck and springs would not push cap up so I could get a grip to turn it. Ended up prying ring around cap off (held on by double sided tape) so I could grip cap. Was a pain in the *** to get it off being careful not to damage anything. Online video showed spraying WD-40 and greasing part of the cap. Never would have thought to lubricate cap.

I ran into this problem when out of gas. Luckily wedged it out. What I found was it kept happening whenever the gas got to low. Another thing I found was gas somehow getting up into the gasket. No rhyme or reason except the presumption that these just have a life cycle and needed to be replaced.
