Default Convert canbus bike to hydraulic clutch

Well, I thought converting my wife's 16 Fat Boy to hydraulic clutch would be as simple as replacing the left hand lever and clutch switch to that of a Fat Boy S. I'm having an issue where the starter engages in while the bike is in gear without the clutch pulled in and won't engage with the clutch lever pulled in. I thought this would be fixed by using the proper clutch switch from an S, but no.

I'm wondering if there is something in the computer that needs to be programmed or if I should just abandon this project and put the cable clutch back on.

I honestly find no advantage to a hydraulic clutch. People praise it because it's smooth through the whole pull, but I find it harder on the wrists in stop and go situations. And there's no adjusting to improve from what I can find. It's also another reservoir of fluid to keep an eye on that's unnecessary.

Hyd. clutch has a much stiffer pull than the cable, wifey won't like it. Fix the real issues and save yourself money and some grief.

All good points and questions.

My ‘17 RoadKing with hydraulic clutch is a stiffer pull than my ‘12 cable clutch with SE Spring & Clutch Pack.

It sounds like the switch is wired backwards.

Or you can just not have the switch and remember not to start the bike in gear without pulling the clutch.

FWIW, starting your bike in neutral is slightly easier on the starter.

Sounds like one switch is normally open and the other is normally closed, you will probably have to use the original switch. FWIW, I'm with everyone else on this, I would like to convert my hyd. clutch on my 18 Road King to a cable setup, not going to, but my 17 Breakout has a race clutch with the heaviest springs in it and it's still easier to pull than the Road King.
