I went with the Kuryakyn Plug N Play bracket and a used Low Dyna Sissy Bar off Ebay. Search on here for Kuryakyn Plug and Play for more info and pics from someone already.

You could buy the lock for one side...Since you can't take the backrest setup off unless both sides are unlatched.

But I totally agree with you, the whole HD backrest thing is expensive. Makes a HUGE difference though for both your passenger and you. A comfy passenger that's not right on your a ss is a happy passenger...

No need for one on my current ride.
