Default Softail hard saddlebags

Looking for some quality paintable hard bags for a fatboy. Any suggestions? Harley used to have a set of round top bags for softails but are no longer produced. Vote is still out about fitting factory touring bags to the softail.

I like mine....bags made for softails sit way too high on bike for my taste....looks stupid IMO.
Get the kit to install touring bags that sit lower. Looks more balanced overall. But hey, that's my opinion. Good luck on your choice.

Depends on your exhaust system & bike.
They make kits for hard bags on softails just make sure you read the fine print.
They also make/sell leather wrapped hard bags that will fit.
I and looking for hard bags because the leather ones I currently have will not last with all the rain we have.
They even make the old school styled ones that will bolt on.
I am waffling towards them, even though I would prefer the larger capacity of the newer styled ones.

I really like these from Viking, but On my Breakout and I believe most Softails, you have to relocate the tail lights. I am not willing to do this for something that will rarely be on the bike. https://www.vikingbags.com/harley-so...ard-saddlebags

Apologies for the necro thread but didn’t wanna create a new one. What kit is out there to mount touring bags on the softails? I’ve found one on amazon for $40ish but not sure if that’s the correct one.

Don’t go cheap on the mounts.
Also, try the forum search function as this subject’s been discussed many times.

Here’s my thread on the subject:

The original kit was "Cycle Visions" Bagger tail for $ 295. https://www.cyclevisions.com/collect...lebag-mounts-1
There are now many Chinese knock off kits on ebay and Amazon for mounts and bags for less than $ 300 but be careful some are not a sturdy, many of them dont have the extra brace at the rear that ties the 2 sides together like these for $ 49 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Saddlebag-S...cacb7ea98ba443

or these with bags https://www.ebay.com/itm/Painted-Sad....c100005.m1851

The mounts I was thinking about were the Drag Specialties, but after finding them again they're made for throw-over bags to keep them off the swing arm. So obviously not what I am needing. I will look CycleVision, I also so HogWorks makes both brackets and bags.
