42mm flatside carb

RE: 42mm flatside carb
The '03 Springer Softail I bought last weekend has the Mikuni HSR42 on it. I cannot believe how much better it is than the stock HD carb ... It's night and day on throttle response, and not huffing or puking back out of the air cleaner. I've TRIED to make this carb miss a beat, and it just won't do it. I'll add this to my "always mod" list!

RE: 42mm flatside carb
I'm thinking about going with a Mikuni HSR42 on my Train. My only hesitation is that I've been told that it "rattles" and that the rattling is really noticeable. Can any of you guys with the carb give me the head's up on that?
Cheers!

they do rattle......but just at really low idle speeds, the only thing I dont like about them, is they are prone to stick the float when trailering, and before you flame me, when I trailer, it's with 10 to 12 bikes cause I am trying to sell something.....they are great carbs.

either drop the bowl, or tap on it with a screwdriver....if you turn off your petcock, like I try to get my guys to do, it doesnt happen much, but if you dont, you are liable to have a problem, the other thing I would highly reccomend is a fuel filter, and they make some cool pretty small chrome ones, cause with gas the way it is these days, you can have some sediment in your tank, and that will stick the float. Dont let me scare you off, just do a little on the front end, and you wont have the problems I had in the past, explaing to someone why I am working on their brand new bike, cause somebody forgot to turn off the petcock. The throttle response will keep on your face!
