Default Softail Springer

I know this is yesterday's news but what are your thoughts on the dis-continued ( a long time ago ) Springer front ends ? Just asking to see how much opinions have changed over the years...

I just bought one to add to the fold...

I got a great deal, and yet was still skeptical based on internet research about the springer front end.

From what I read, they had issues with wearing out the head bearings and the "nightmare" of the maintenance needed.

Well, I bought the Springer anyways and went through it with a fine tooth comb.

I bought service/parts/electrical diagnostic manuals, and since it had 9,940 miles, I promptly did the 10K service.

There is certainly more parts to check and eventually replace on the springer. I did not find it difficult to check/work on. I checked the neck bearing adjustment, and mine was fine, with no signs of improper wear.

My opinion...... Yes, it takes a little more time to maintain the Springer, but I suspect if the recommended maintenance is performed, it won't be significantly more problematic than any other HD.

I think the Springers look great and it's a hoot to ride.... I'm really enjoying my Springer!

I bought my fxsts new in 05. I have a little over 112k on it and I've never had to do any repair work to the front end. In a nutshell, my bike is never for sale or trade and I like the nostalgic look of a Springer. Here's a pic of mine customized just the way I like it.

Didn't mention that Springer riders are pretty much a breed unto themselves , in other words , you either love your Springer or you dislike them and everything about them...just an observation I've notice going back to the late 60's and those iconic Pauchos(sp?)...

I like mine, I didn't care for the handling on the Heritage Springers, but the FXSTS is great.

I've said it before...I'll say it again.

You can have my Springer when you pry it from my cold, dead hands.

I won't own a Harley without the Springer front end.
