oil bud oil cooler install
I just received this cooler today. It's for my 05 softail springer. It's an Oilbud oil cooler. This is unusual in that it mounts under the bike between the frame rails. https://www.harleyoilcoolers.com/
It's 35 degrees F but I am going for a ride anyway.
I want to obtain an oil temperature reading with out the oil cooler. I have one of those HD oil dip sticks that reads and displays the temperature of the oil in the oil bag.
Installation of the cooler will follow this weekend. As long as there is no snow or ice on the road I will follow up with another temperature reading. I will try to duplicate the same distance ,RPM and speed as the first reading.

I just returned from a 15 mile ride, 40-65 MPH speeds , up and down hills. The air temp was 40 F. I couldn't get the temps up over 200 F (93 C). With the air temperature what it is ,I am not so sure any oil cooler could lower the oil temp lower than that. I'd be very surprised. It's supposed to be a couple of degrees colder this weekend. Once I install the cooler I will duplicate my route and speed and see what shakes out. Maybe this is not a valid test considering the air temperature . I don't know...

I only need it to cool when I'm moving ! I don't do parades. seriously with that much surface area I would be surprised if it did not act like a radiator and shed at least some heat.

Seems like it does. I noticed during this past summer after installing mine that my temp while stopped for longer periods in traffic that my oil temp climbed much slower than it used to.
love the oilbud cooler. Lowered my temps by a large amount, hidden under the frame and no electrical draw. Nice and simple

I'm afraid I don't even know what a shotgun shock is...try the link in my first post..ask bud, the owner/builder/designer.
crappy pic but it gives you an idea of how it fits. The cooler is in front of the transmision so I assume has no affect on the shock type used.
