Average Softail riders = Harley + aesthetics + power + handling = smiles
Average Dyna riders = Harley + power + handling + aesthetics = smiles
Dyna riders general have always put ride above looks. I feel they were pretty quick to embrace the new frame and mono shock performance improvements once they realized what had been implemented. It's pretty much The band wagon they were already on. They sacrificed "classic" looks long ago for better handling. Over the years they had their own "style" but it was always second to performance.
Any troll, Dyna or Softail, were always trolls first. Has nothing to do with the specific bike. Plenty of stereotypes either way. Putting a fence between models, owners, or forum sections for that matter, is missing the point I think.
I agree both models as we knew them are gone. Some distinctive features will be missed even with all the improvements. They might as well have just ditched the platform name and just gone with the model name.
Motorcycles aren't all about rational objective values. I feel these new bikes overall stick a good balance. The more people ride them, the more they'll like them. They'll never "replace" the older gen bikes we love, but they have a place along side them.

Forums are so predictable......
Hard to have a conversation/debate because people take it so personally when someone disagrees with their opinion.....
If you don't like what I like.... you're butt hurt
If you like something I don't.... you drank the cool-aide
Whatever happened to being able to agree to disagree.....

Why have you always favored dynas until now?
Congrats on the new purchase, BTW.
