need help with a tunner
Ok narrowed my search down to 2
1. Power commander V
2. thundermax self tunning
Question is, on the power commander v do I have to have it dyno? Also why the big price difference? Sorry to be such a noob but this is my first HD I have a 05 Deluxe efi.
I picked out the vance and hines long big shots and the SE high flow air cleaner.

The price difference is because you are looking at two totally different animals.
Put simply:
The Thundermax is an advanced tuning module which replaces your stock ECM and which you link to your computer to load maps which are "auto tuned" and can be tweaked manually to your liking. This is a much more advanced product, but the learning curve is higher, installation more involved and it requires some monitoring to get the best out of it. A lot of guys buy one thinking they can just put it on, load it with a map and forget about it, but they end up being disenchanted and overwhelmed by it in the long run and end up changing to something to something else (and selling it to s Tmax enthusiast for pennies on the dollar). A desire to learn about the product and about the basics of EFI tuning is definitely a plus if you want to invest in one of these units.
The Power Commander is a module that "piggybacks" on your stock module and basically compensates for the AFR and timing "deficiencies" of your stock module based on the the mods you have made and on the set or "canned" map loaded to it. They have the ability to auto-tune and to be tweaked by the end user, now, I believe, but to a much more limited degree. It is basically a "set-it-and-forget-it" tuning solution, which is what most people want, but will likely not be able to pull the best performance or potential out of your build.
As suggested above, the Power Vision (made by the same company as the PC), is a good 3rd option and the best of both worlds. It offers set-it-and-forget-it canned maps which flashed to your stock ECM for auto-tune, real-time monitoring of the tune while riding AND the ability to hook up a computer and tweak the map/tune to your liking, if you desire.

You would need a 18mm (for Wide Band Sensors) to use the T-Max
And a little more info...
Since your bike doesn't use any factory O2 sensors, you wouldn't be able to run the Power Vision's built-in "Basic" Auto-Tune without adding on Auto-Tune modules
I'll send you some info on the PCIII-USB
