Lot's of examples here, with black forks and bars:

some really nice bikes there though , would have been interesting to have them as daily riders or to do a cross country trip on one

Well, the point is, this is obviously what they're going for with the '18 Heritage. There's been a lot of the "blackout" thing in recent years, but I don't think that's what they were going for with this redesign. Looks more like they're aiming to channel that era.
...cool idea!!

Yep, that's the only remaining question for me: how long before the aftermarket catches up?

Okay I'm sold!
Just did an image search of 50's Harley, and you can see exactly what they're going for.
Lots of pictures of bikes with black forks and bars. Mostly springers, but that's obviously what they're evoking here. It fits.
Still not crazy about the digital studs. But that's minor.
I want one. A 114.

I just test rode a 114 Heritage at Rocky Top HD in Pigeon Forge. Amazing! This was the most fun I have had on a motorcycle in a long time. The new suspension is everything I had hoped it would be. This is how the softail should have always been made. It doesn't hurt that the 114 has incredible torque and plenty of speed. I am not 100% sold on all the changes cosmetically, but I will own one of these shortly. I will always have my '91!
Hopefully Harley builds lotta 114 models. I think I would go with black.
