Default Gassed up Fatboy today, smelling fumes in garage

As the title says.... I gassed her up today and I'm getting a pretty strong smell of gas fumes in the garage.

Is this normal? Or should I be checking something out?

I made sure that both caps were on snugly and that the fuel petcock was set to Off and choke is In.

Let me also add..... yes, I had a bit of spillage when gassing it. Thanks to the Safety *****, you can't get a gas can these days that won't get you soaked.

So could it just be a little residue I failed to wipe off?

Well, it occurred to me earlier that I didn't have the smell before I filled it this afternoon. And since I had a fair amount of spillage thanks to the crappy (yet brand new) gas container, maybe it's just some of the spillage I failed to wipe.

But if it stays this way I'll check out your suggestion, so thanks.

My guess would be the breather. I did it about 12 months ago, filled it up too much on the side stand and then when the bike is upright it comes out the breather. Is there a puddle under the bike?

No puddle, but that's a good point; I did fill it up with it on the stand. It was a bit tough to control that big can while having to also manipulate the weirdness on the nozzle.

If that's the case, would it have damaged the breather?

I'd doubt it. The breather is kind of protected by the smaller opening under the filler cap...if that makes sense?

And the fact that it is 100 degrees across the country right now doesn't help.

Is your left cap a real gas cap or a fuel level gauge?
If it's a gage, do not turn it.

If it's really leaking fuel, you need to eyeball lines to carb and the vent off the front of the tank under the console.

Add a signature line similar to mine on your bike detail under user cp.
