softail rear tire under normal riding conditions PSI maintained at between 37 to 40 psi. how many miles, with an average sized rider 180 - 190lbs, to reduce the tred down to the minimum allowable if not below 1/32" from NEW.

it greatly depends on the tire.. I run Avon Venom which are a much softer compound.. after 6k of normal use and proper PSI it seems won't last another 1k

Original DunFlops are harder and can easily last double that mileage .

I've had two sets of Dunlops didn't get past 5K on either on them. Moving over to the Michelin Commander II's.

I know a few people swear by those Commander II's. I will be trying them out on my first tire swap

I've got around 80 lbs more to haul around than you do but based on how I ride, how I maintain my tires and the 3 different brands of tires that I've tried, my MC 2's gave me the best mileage so far. I got a little over 21k on my last MC 2. I'm now on my 2nd set of MC's so I'll see if I can beat that.

I got tired of replacing these tires like a 1st grader's #2 Pedigree pencil eraser and have been rotating mine. Ever week, you switch seating position between the left bag, seat and right bag. That way, you get all that side tread that normally goes to waste.
Doing this, I got almost 9K out of them.

I weigh about the same as you and I run around 36-38 in the rear. Right now I've got about 14k on the rear and there's plenty of tread left. I might add that one way I get the most out of my tires is by watching the wear pattern on my tire. By using the above pressure range, my wear pattern is pretty even all the way across the tire.
