Default intermittent speedo and odometer

I have an 07 heritage and from time to time the speedo quits. the bike will keep running and its about 50/50 that it will die when I come to a stop and let the throttle drip to Idle. It always starts right back up. some times it will start to register as I ride and some times it won't. It will start to work if I turn the ignition off for a few and restart it. When the speedo quits the odometer stops registering and the turn signal auto-cancel stops working. Everything else works normally. Ideas? suggestions?

I'd say it was the vehicle speed sensor (VSS.)

Definitely. Been through 2 of them on my 09 Fatboy. Located on the top rear of the transmission.

First thing to do is clean the battery connections and the ground

Second is VSS. I've been through 3 of them on my old softail. (2005) If I remember right they're like 75 bucks from harley. Vehicle Speed Sensor. On top of the tranny

Third thing to check is the ignition switch.

Good luck

If the auto-shutoff on the turn signals isn't working as he says, It's the VSS guaranteed.

I got pissed off after two of the Harley ones, then I ordered an off brand that has worked like a charm.

Biggest pain was getting to the connector.

What off brand did you get? I could never find one when mine went out at 4k miles. I didn't want a HD one to go back in it.

Thunderheart. Didn't have another problem after that. I think I had to solder wires, but no big deal.
