Default Torx Tank Bolt

Stripped this Torx head while trying to move my tank. I was one size too small. Went a size up and tried a rubber band around the head, no go. It's on tight from the factory. Why torx here? I don't get it get.

Mine has a nut and rubber grommet underneath. Changed the torx bolt out to a hex. I will tell you that bolt underneath is a PIA, a wedged large flathead screwdriver works for me. Does not need torqued very much, and use blue loctite.
You're gonna have to wedge the bottom and drill it out, that is the easiest way. Forget the ez out crapola, drill it.

Use a smaller drill bit first, then one the diameter of the bolt.

When I have had a stripped button head, Torx screw in an accessible location, like yours, I've had success using a small cutting wheel on a Dremel or hacksaw to cut a slot in the head of the screw. Then I used a large flat-blade screwdriver to remove the screw. If the slot I cut was too narrow for the screwdriver, I used a very stiff putty knife to back out the screw.

I have not had success getting a vice grip to bite well on those screws. I then replaced the button head screw with a hex socket cap screw.

Take a cutoff wheel and grind a slot in it for a flat screwdriver. I’ll take torx over allen ANYDAY! Just have to use the right size

Huh? A torx over a hex? Torx was meant to strip out so it didn't get over torqued. Common sense and knowledge of torque values I prefer the hex. Got tired of replacing torx screw/bolts just because they seized up.

Don't blame the Torx bolt blame using the wrong size socket and poor quality sockets

Here we go again, no snap. Bolts seize up, torx head was manufactured to strip out before over torque. Now thats all good in itself for the novice but when it seizes it will strip before you get it out. Hello?

That is completely incorrect. If you’re having that problem with Torx, your tools are bad. Why do you think deck screws are all torx now? I can assure you that it is not because they are meant to strip out. Whoever told you that needs a spanking. I’m a professional mechanic, and I have had WAY more allen/hex buttonhead cap screws strip out than torx. Socket heads in allen are next to impossible to strip unless they are of poor quality or your tools suck. But allen buttonheads are made by terrorists, I’m pretty sure..
