Default 2005 FXSTS Floorboard Conversion...what do I need to know?

Got an '05 Springer I'd like to convert to floorboards for more of an old-school look.

I've searched through a lot of threads on here and it doesn't seem like there's a whole lot of consensus as to what year brackets will fit what. Some say that anything 2000-up will fit any Softail, others say 2007-up won't work with anything 2000-2006 (and most everything listed for sale seems to be 2007-up).

What say you guys? Just want to make sure I don't end up dropping money on a setup that won't work for me.

Here's some detailed shots of my current exhaust and foot control brackets.

Thanks for any info you guys can drop on me...

I'm sure it's been covered if you search it. https://www.hdforums.com/forum/softa...-controls.html

Did several searches and like I said, there doesn't seem to be a consensus.

Checking Harley's online store (not that I plan on buying from them), their floorboard brackets are listed as being for 2007-17 Softails. I'm just trying to understand if the fitment is because of an exhaust clearance issue, or if it's something more, like a slightly different bolt pattern for the brackets.

I'm aware '99-down uses Evo-style mounting pattern, and 00-up uses the Twin Cam style mounts. But what, if anything, changed with the floorboards between 2006 and 2007? This will tell me if I can buy a set of late-model Softail Slim takeoffs, or if I need to hunt for a 2000-2006 set of boards.

Well, Seeing as how I am the one who purchased those brackets that langwilliams linked you to, I should chime in. They were off a Softail Slim, so that means its fairly new. They bolted up to my 2000 just fine. I havent picked up any boards or checked if I need a new brake pedal or not (because I dont have boards...)
But they bolt up.

good news there aces. I have a set of boards but I'm not sure if I want to part with them. they seem to be plentiful on eBay. I went to the narrower heritage foot boards for some extra exhaust clearance for a two into one I'm using right now.

I bit the bullet and bought some CycleSmith Banana Boards.
Spendy, but I want the extra foot room. And they look pretty slick too.

Really. Thats odd. I havent put mine on.
I assume the 'old' style still works, its just a different length or something?

The bike is still on the lift with one side still using the forward control bracket, and the other in stock position so I can decide if I want to use the forward brackets..
