Default Rattlin' Forks in Saudi

There are a number of 07 Fatboys in Saudi and we all have a problem - there is a rattle like a dime in a tin cup when you drive over a slow, small bump like a speed bump from the front forks. The dealer has stripped the forks - no problems apparent but he thinks its caused by the damper tube washer/seal. No word from the HD folk. It sure is annoying! Anyone else had the problem?

I have an 07 Heritage and have exactly the same problem over here in Bahrain. The dealer here is looking into it but I don't hold out much hope. The 07 Fatboy on the shop floor at the dealers does it as well. I will chase him to see if he has found a solution.

Hey guys, betting your problem is the same as the oneI did have. The dealer replaced both front fork tubes and found a mis-machined bushing in the right one. I have seen other posts on this and we arent the only ones who have this little annoying rattle. The dealer told me only way to get ridof the rattle was to replace the tubes. This is just a guess because not hearing the rattle no way to be sure.

Thanks for the replies. No , it 'aint sand! I understand it wasn't a problem on the 06's but there are different damper tubes on the '07 - maybe to handle the bigger front wheel. Short term solution seems to be louder pipes. Long term, keep moaning to HD?

Wife had the same problem with her 07 FLSTC. Dealer replaced front tubes. The bike also leaked about a half quart of engine Oil in the first 50 miles. That was about normal for my old panhead, but didn't expect that on a new bike.

Thanks ican. I take it they replaced the damper tubes. Did they say what exactly the problem was with them?

I heard there was a service bulletin released last week from Harley on this, it only pertains to the Fatboys so you might ask the dealer about it. My dealer replaced both sides due to the loose bushing.

Some problem with a valve not being crimped properly. I never trust what they tell me anyway. After the way they treated my wife with the oil leak, and the attitude that she should be happy that they let her buy a Harley and quit complaining about the oil leak, sticking throttle and clunk in the front forks, she doesn't have much respect for anyone connected with a Harley dealership. Sherides more in one year than most of them do in five years, and they treated her like dirt. Not much respect here for the central Arkansasarea Harley dealership.

Interesting. See the thread under Technical, suspension etc., SG rattle.Seems that the 07 SG maybe has a similar problem. If it is the damper tubes that would be an easy fix.
