xtrooper - how much did it cost? Did you do it yourself? Does it carry forward your old mileage?

Yes, I did it myself. It's an easy straightforward swap.
You tell them the mileage you want on the odometer when you order it and they'll program it for you that way. If you decide to buy one and have trouble finding a source, PM me.

Xtrooper is correct. I had one on my '03 Heritage and now I have one on my '07. The only thing you loose is the clock. It is the one of best pieces I'vepurchased for my Harleys. There are two models, one has colored lighting for $499.95, and one that has standard lighting for $449.95. I've used the standard lighting on both of mine.

I went with the Spun aluminum speedo/tach. Really nice look and the red panel lights are killer at night. I was however very disappaonted at loosing the clock. Never had a clock on any of my bikes but then again I never had a bike without a tach, sooooo you know..

First, you do NOT lose the 2nd trip odometer as you incorrectly state. The ONLY thing you "lose" is the clock as previously mentioned. Second, regarding the mileage being displayed all the time, I say "So what?!" You try and make this sound like it's a bad thing when, in fact, I see it as a handy feature.

I didn't like losing the clock and especially didn't likegaining the "handy feature" of the continuously displayed odometer. I can forsee having to replace the entire unit when that LCD display quits and LCD displays DO fail. I can see no reason why they couldn't keep all the features of the stock speedometer and add the tach.
When they correct these two faults, I'll buy another one.

The stock H-D speedometer also uses an LCD display as do the aftermarket ones and I suspect they'll all last a good long time.
I don't know what to say regarding the idea that a clock is more important than a tach on a motorcycle. With a stick-on quartz clock, a watch, and a cellphone, having a clock function as part of the speedometer isn't essential to me and certainly isn't worth doing without a tachometer to have. Between the two, I'd rather know my engine speed than the time, but that's just me.

I would have to disagree about the LCD. I have a degree in electronic engineering and LCD displays have a fair degree of longevity. Heck, I even have the Casio digital watch that my grandmother gave me 30 years ago for my 8th birthday and it still works and I have maintained the battery over the years for sentimental reasons so it has pretty much been displaying the time since 1977. I am dubious about the LED display on my thundermax lasting that long though
