Howdy!! New member here from Ohio. Also a newer rider. Bought my custom 2000 fat boy last spring. Had a great summer and fall riding putting 6500 miles on her with no issues. Last week took it in for a new rear tire, rear wheel bearing, rear brakes, front shock bushings replaced.
2 days later, went out the garage and notice oil leaking on left side bottom base of jugs. Called my mechanic immediately he said not to worry. He said wait for it to warm up and they should reseal themselves, hopefully. I live in northeast Ohio on Lake Erie and my bike was parked all winter in a non heated garage. Has anyone had this happen or have any feedback and info would be appreciated. Thanks and looking forward to finding all the info I need on here.

Welcome.

Are you sure it's leaking out of the base gasket? It will probably continue to seep to some extent. If it is the base gasket, it just depends on how much seeping you are willing to deal with before it gets torn down and replaced.

Unfortunately, yes I'm sure. I cleaned all the oil off, put the bike on the jack so it was level, started the bike and let it run for 5 minutes and watched oil seep. Since I'm most likely going to have gaskets replace, might as well do a cam chest, oil pump upgrade, rest of the gaskets replaced. Anything else? Any suggestions for performance? I know the carbureted 88's are limited.

Welcome to the Club!

Have you taken a good ride and got er real hot? If it is a seeping issue, it should slow down to a stop. If the gasket is shot, it will continue to "seep" and may get worse. mine seeps a little, I call it sweat cuz I ride it like I stole it!
Keep an eye on it.

I am from the same parts of Ohio as you! And guess what my winter project was. Replaced upper and lower box cover gaskets because of leaking. It really wasnt a bad job at all. After its done snowing today it will be 70 sunday. So, take it for a ride and check to see how bad it is.
