I've had this 06 standard for a bit over a month now I guess. I've noticed that Everytime I park it in the garage after riding it fairly hard I smell gas when I walk into the garage. I've looked and looked and there's no gas leaking or puddling anywhere.

Me and a neighbor went for about a 50 mile ride this afternoon. And we rode hard! I immediately parked the bike and went to pick up the kids from school. As soon as I got back I opened the garage and smelled gas. Anyone have any ideas, because it's not an obvious leak or even a drip.

 

Heat causes the gas in your tank to expand and push some vapor out of the gas tank vent tube.

 

Ah ha! That's why I only smell it for a short time!

 

If you top up the tank all the way and leave your bike sitting in the sun for a while the expanding gas and fumes may even push some gas through the vent hose causing a wet gas spot underneath your bike. Still nothing to worry about.
