aftermarket tachometer on 2017 Heritage
#11
If you want a tach that is actually useful, you need to get one on your handlebar. There are top clamp mounts, like on the Police Road Kings, that get the tach up where you can see it when riding. I have a HD tach/speedo combo and it's useless when winding out the gears, unless you want to look straight down which isn't too wise when winding out the gears!
If you want to use a windshield bag, the top clamp mount *might* be in the way, although I see guys doing it. As an alternative, I had Drag Specialties tach on a regular handlebar clamp on my Road King and it was reasonably effective, it wasn't directly in my line of sight but I could glance slightly down and see it so it was useful. Unlike the tank mounted combo tach/speedo.

Im sure there are aftermarket tachs that would work for you.
Heres an idea for you if you plan on using a tuner. You could mount a Dynojet PowerVision or V&H FP3 using your smatphone as a display and it will show RPMs and a lot of other usefull info.
You can use it like this without flashing/altering the stock tune since its a 17 and you might not want to alter it for warranty purposes.
