I just noticed recently on my 2014 breakout that the green 6th gear light will flash and sometimes stay on when I pull the clutch in and start downshifting to stop. Has this happened to anyone else? Anyone know how to fix it?

 

I've seen something similar before, but it happens so infrequently and that's hard for me to re-create it. Most the time when I noticed it I'm just not entirely sure if I was actually in sixth gear still or if I was in a lower gear.

 

The light is triggered by the ECM. 6th gear is 1:1, and for a millisecond or two between shifts you are in neutral which the computer may read the speed and rpm as 1:1 is my guess. Don't think it's anything to worry about.

 

The gear indicator on the speedo works by comparing engine RPM to MPH. Based on known ratios it can calculate the gear you are in. You must have a slow down shift and coast for a second with the clutch pulled in before you change gears. So when the engine speed drops while the bike maintains speed the speedo calculates 6th gear.
