Unexpected Harley wheelies are scary!!!

RE: Unexpected Harley wheelies are scary!!!
Well I sure as hell can beleive the wheelie thing. I have been riding less than 6 months and know nothing about engine mods or hp or performance etc. .....I turn my grip towards me and she goes faster.
Well, about 10 days ago I hit a bump/lip in the road and I know for sure the front tire felt like it came up a little, 'cuz it scared the **** outta me. So 100% if you're accelerating and you hit a bump or something the front end is gonna rise a little.
Oh, ....and I don't have a special air thingy nor a fancy pipe. I just got a rush slip-on thing.
Gosh, I really hope you guys believe me. []

If you hit a bump hard/fast enough for the front wheel to come off the ground, wouldn't the rear wheel come off the ground also? Sounds more like a "jump" than a wheelie. I've ridden over 4x4's at about 50 mphon a Road King during Motor School training. Both wheels came off the ground. I'd guess they came off the ground about 6 inches. I'd hate to be racing on a road with big enough bumps to give me 6 inches of air under the wheel(s).

Taint no WHEELIE !!! My Chevy Truck or the Wifes Ultima or even a bowling ball will come off the ground with enough speed behind it and a big enough bump ! Now when you feel that TQ and the front end powers up thats a different story . My bike might do a teeny wheelie with some clutch work going into second gear - I hav'nt tried .

Yea, I know about BOTH wheels coming off the ground. Had a recent experience with that myself. Living in the great state of WV, we don't have the best roads. I was driving down the interstate, and there's this big hump in the pavement..probably 3 inches high. Did see it until it was too late, was accelerating along at the time too..probably going around 55-60..hit the bump and the Fatboy, and well..the fat boy (myself) went flying through the air..it was a pretty wild experience for a new rider

Man that is something you don't see every day. You done very good. As for the new super bikes stay awayI traded in a '03 GSXR 1000 in for my FatBoy. It had 147hp @ 165mph with top speed of 180mph straight form the showroom floor.Like they say crotch rocket. If you have never rode one it is something else. I got my HD to get away from all that crazyness.Cutting curves @115mph is fun but OMG what was I thinking.[8D]Now its Harley all the way. Yall ride safe.

I find it hard to believe a Softail can do a wheelie in third gear.
I raced a friend of mine while on my Ducati. My bike is supposed to do 0 to 60 in 3.5 second his in 2.9 seconds. Anyway I beat him. You know why? Because his bike wanted to wheelie the whole time. My Ducati doesn't really want to. I can get the front wheel up but I have to try. So that makes me want to believe that a 650 pound low to the ground bike with limited horse power isn't going to get the wheel off the ground. You should get somebody to make a video of you doing a wheelie on your bike.
