Default Fatboy S: the perfect touring bike !

For those who are still in doubt if the Fatboy is (also) suitable as a touring machine: just got back from a 4 day trip to Austria; 2250 km in 4 days of which 950 on the last day. Got back home without any issues after 12 hours in the saddle...

Out of curiosity I also had a go at top speed (on the German motorway of course...): even with the windscreen and bags attached it topped at exactly 180 km/h; this surely impressed me. Can't say it is a comfortable ride at that speed though

To us yanks, that is about 115 MPH....and that surely is living dangerously! (also pretty impressive for that Fatboy!) What year is it?

I did 2000 miles on my Fat Boy S in June in 5 days. The bike does just fine though there is buffeting when it's very windy.

I can't imagine doing 115 MPH on any roads around here....the 2K is no problem....even for an ole guy like me!

Perhaps not many of you are familiair with the German motorways but there are still a lot of stretches where there is no speed limit; there's one not too far from where I live in The Netherlands which - during the evenings and in weekends - is almost empty... you can guess the speeds some are doing there with bikes and cars ...

Nice!

Softails, if set up for it and with a GOOD seat, are great long distance tourers. I have done many multi thousand mile/km trips aboard Reaper over the years. Her suspension has been upgraded with Progressive 422s (set to stock height) in the rear and Progressive springs in the front, and she has a really nice Corbin Gunfighter & Lady seat. Last month I did a small road trip down to the Indianapolis area. The total distance was over 2000 miles/3200 kms over 6 days, including a 1 day run back home of 850+ miles (almost 1400kms)/16+ hours. When I got home, I was tired, but not beat up by the bike. I've done plenty of long days like that over the years, and always felt fine.

Cheers!

This is why I traded my Forty-Eight for a Fatboy. A few weeks ago, some friends and I took a trip about 400KM/250Miles - when I got home that afternoon- I could barely walk and my back was killing me. Loved the 48, but its more of stay in the city and scoot around than taking trips!

Now just got to get the Fatboy from the shop - Brazil bureaucracy will drive a man crazy.

The only problem with the Fat Boy and touring is the 5000 mile rear tire.
