My 2013 Deluxe acted up a few times yesterday morning while out and about. Bike started up and ran just fine when leaving the house. I had two stops to make before heading to work. Both where quick stops after the bike had reach operating temperature. When starting the warmed up engine, the idle was excessively high, what sounded like it may even be wide open throttle. The cable is not kinked or hung up in any way. My attempts to twist the throttle in the opposite direction did nothing since it was already in the closed position. I don't see anything in the service manual for super high idle and I do not have a check engine light. Is it possible it is throwing codes in the background without lighting the check engine light? Any ideas as to what might be happening?

 

My 2014 BO will do the same. My indy tech stated they all will do it, based off some silly start up routine in software. He advised it can be averted by flipping switch to 'run' & immediately 'start' bike. If there is hesitation between the 2 steps (haven't tried to figure out time length) it will high idle (mine is 1350 rpm back down to 1000). Works for me, try it. Previous to this start routine I'd engage 'run' wait for fuel pump to stop, then 'start'; always got high idle while 'hot'.

 

That's the startup enrichment. It built into your efi calibration. Check you icv valve.

With Direct Link tuning we can and do turn it off at any temp over 150. It is simply not needed when the bike is warm...

 

Maybe you missed it in my original post but I'm not talking about it being at 1300 RPM instead of 1000RPM. It sounded like the bike was at wide open throttle. If I had to guess I would say it was at like 3500RPM.

 

I think it's the IAC (Idle Air Control) solenoid. It's a tapered end rod on a solenoid. It pushes out to open the butterfly valve and retracts to close the butterfly valve. (Retract = lower idle, extend = increased idle) Either the solenoid is sticking or the ECM is sending it the wrong idle speed. Shoot the rod end with some WD-40 and add some dielectric grease in the connector. See if that helps.

Mine has done this once or twice right after i bought the bike. I immediately switched it off and restarted with no problems. Hasnt done it since.

 

I'd be happy with 3000 RPM at start-up, mine is up around 6000-Yikes. I've gone from super low idle to this. Also, the throttle has stuck on me 5 times wide open, in traffic. I had a fuelpak and bike ran **** for about 3 weeks, then all kinds of crap started happening. Pulled the fuelpak, bike ran ok for 2 weeks, then had no idle or excessive high idle. I have a SERT and all my meters are dead nuts. Already replaced the IAC and TPS. I have noticed with the SERT my IAC shuts off at 155. Extremely high. Was throwing P0506 & P0507 codes until I changed the IAC, now no code except P01632-Odometer not learning. right now my scoot is unsafe to ride. I have a ThunderMax coming this week, because I firmly believe my ECM is fried. 13000 Miles on 2013 Slim-SE Heavy Breather, V&H bigshots, numerous other mods that would (should) have no effect on anything electrical. If the TM does not fix my issue a load of C4 will. Bring back the old carb days. This is complete BS.
