are they recommending new bolts because of the threads being pre coated with a locktite? I reused mine an applied a little thread locker.

No, they recommend new bolts because once the correct amount of torque is applied to the bolts, the tensile strength has been run up to it's maximum limits and a second application of torque on the original bolts may cause a shearing failure.

I believe the reason to replace is because the threads deform slightly when fully torqued. When we break them loose the threads are now softer metal because they have been worked back and forth. The thread locker is not the reason.
The shoulder verses the thread length is also a specific length by design for the proper tension. Therefore, just any bolt isn't proper either. regardless of grade 5 or 8. Spend the couple dollars on the right parts for your driveline.
