Hey zkeisler

Just to give general idea of the cost of the kind of upgrades your considering here's the route I took. I have a 2001 Heritage, my second Heritage, and I really like the look of the Heritage models so I wanted to work with what I have. My first upgrade was to a 96", ported heads, reaper cams, and a D&D pipe. The dealers dyno sheet claimed 98 hp and 107 tq. This cost me about $3500 and was a blast to ride! I trust my mechanic and he said these modifications would not have much of an impact on the life of the motor. I got some unexpected money and decide if that 96" was so much fun a 117" had to be great, I am still putting it together but just for a reference, using my crank case and heads with more mods and a baker 6 speed cost me around $10,000. The $3500 version might be enough to keep a smile on your face. That being said I was at a dealership in Kentucky last month and they had 2016 Heritages starting at a little over $20,000

You have the Timken bearing bottom end so if I were you I would have a 124 kit put on my stock lower end. Better in several ways cause you keep your stock numbers on the case and have your heads ported for the sleuth look. With that engine the 6 speed isn't necessary unless your going for an overdrive unit. Also remember the rest of the bike needs upgraded as in better brakes; huskier clutch; bigger carb; bigger pipes; etc. I ended up with about 12k in a Fatboy(doing what your thinking about) that was worth about 12k so don't expect to get a .10 on the dollar if you sell.

You have a FB, go with a torque. They don't do well at high speeds. Mine was a 95CI and kicked butt, only til 100mph. Reason I say this is the solid rims. Go fast quickly but give the top end up.

I wanted to add, a 120r+ on a FB is just plan silly.

My 120r was $10,500 installed at Harley, next will be Baker dd7. If u go 120r go with Baker 6 speed that should slip into ur 5 speed case

Have you ever rode a bike with a 95'' BB kit, some head work and a good cam?

you may be surprised at the performance of one... it'd be over 100 sq and will rock at a fraction of the cost you talking about.

Thanks for all the input. Looks like I may be better off having my engine upgraded vs. buying a new engine.

My two cents, find a 'B' that swaps out and have it reworked. You'd be surprised what can be done. It's a FB, you should be concerned with torque, not top end.
EDIT: Just realized I replied too many times, damn it, man! *laffs
