Default Looking to put a wider front tire on 2005 deuce. Any suggestions?

Hey everyone, so I'm looking to get rid of the stock solid rear rim the deuce has and also to get a wider front tire, the tar strips on the highway are bad news with my stock front. My question is, does anyone have experience with swapping take off rims from another bike onto a deuce? I don't want to spend thousands on rims and tires, and would be happy with a regular spoke rim for the rear. So I'm hoping there is a direct swap with take offs that would be possible without having to modify my deuce too much.

I've never had an issue with tar strips on the highway no matter how bad the road is covered.

First thing you should do is try tire with more grip. Your mileage will go down but it is better than having a high mileage tire on while you go down.

on your stock rim the Metzeler ME880 90/90 is the widest you can do. it will however make an improvement overall, but you'll still have some slight "walking" on strips due to it just being a skinny tire. if you want to go wider tire you'll need a wider rim and wider fender. Russ Weinermont Designs makes a "Stinger" fender cut down for Deuce what will accept up to a 120 wide tire. I'm not sure what other wheels are a direct swap though.

Best I can suggest is just lace up a new wider 19 rim for a Harley with the right hole pattern to your existing hub. Fits under stock fender. Cheap.

I saw a guy in NH that had the same Deuce wheel and tire on the front, interesting look for a Deuce.

As far as the tar snakes, I think it might be your tires. On my Roadie I went from Dunlops to Michelins and that entire scenario went away. Have not tried a Michelin on a 21" wheel yet, but I will when the WG needs new sneakers. This may be your issue, though yes a 21" wheel is a bit of a compromise for looks.

Thanks for all the tips guys, I just slapped on a new rear rubber, once it's warm enough I'll take it on the highway again to see if the tar still gives me any issues. Hopefully that's all it was.
