Fuel filter change question

Default Fuel filter change question

I just got in my fuel filter kit in For my 2007 night train and as I was looking over the parts I noticed that the fuel hose that connects the fuel pump to the filter is the same exact length as the fuel line that exits the tank. This has me thinking that I may have ordered the wrong fuel line and I don't want to remove the fuel pump to find out. The fuel how that I have is just shy of 8 inches long

so I'd think it's the right one if its the same length???....

I changed my filter around 50k miles, but I didn't change the fuel lines. My fuel lines looked good in the tank so I wasn't worried about them, maybe I'll take a look and see what shape they are in now since I am at 70k on my 09 train. Changing the filter was pretty easy though.

that's not the fuel line (white plastic). That is just what covers the fuel line

I just did this last week on my Heritage. There are 2 of those plastic lines - from the pump to the filter and from the regulator to the quick-disconnect. The ones you have are the ones that go between the pump and the filter. The one between the disconnect and the regulator is longer.

Drag Specialties sells the quick disconnect with the hose in a package. It is much less $$$ than the OEM one.

Damn I now have 3 of the same fuel hose. I think I will just use a gates submersible fuel hose that I can buy locally

Those white plastic hoses are the fuel lines. Last time I did this, I just got the two filter kits from the dealer and bought 2 submersible fuel lines from Napa. The lines I put in were the same length. The plastic HD lines are prone to rub on the inside of the tank and get small pinholes in them.

This is the hose I used, no cutting required, and the type of clamps I used.

On yours, both new lines are 1 foot long, so it works. The lines he has are about 8 inches. That is the standard size for the line between the pump and the filter. It won't be long enough to get down to the disconnect (at least on my Heritage tank it wouldn't).

Great point on the rubbing. Make sure to rotate the hose on the fitting to get everything to sit in the tank with minimal tension and check that those hoses don't rub on the underside of the tank.

You are correct about the hose length. I did not cut the new hoses. The length made it easier to install and caused no issues.

The Corbin Clamps are solid. I used them inside the tank and on the connector hose under the backbone. I have never seen them leak or come apart. These are common clamps used by manufacturers on most vehicles. They sure look nicer than a chrome screw up hose clamp.
