LA Dog same boat here too man, and as you said, I too leave on the coast and this full polished motor and transmission on the heritage I'm starting to wonder how you guys do it. So much cleaning required every week if you wanted to keep it at its best
I'm familiar with your beautiful country and beaches. spent 6 months there - bought an old beater holden and drove from Sydney up to cairns (and then back!). stopped at every decent beach and city along the way, dove the reef way up north. I don't know what's more beautiful there- the expansive endless stretches of beaches with primo waves, or the multitude of hot babes. some of the damn friendliest people I've ever met too. so "good on ya mate", nice place to live.

when you build a shiny bike you don;t realize what a pita it is to maintain until later- labor of love and lots of Mothers Billet Polish, lots of Wenol or Simichrome for the chrome.

I use this stuff now called "protect-a-clear" metal coating - google it. it is from a small company in california. artists use it to coat their bare metal and jewelry works and it keeps the metal from oxidizing. it is completely invisible and can stand up to 600 degrees at which point it just flashes off. it is not like a clear poly or anything it actually lays into the metal and is invisible. I put it all over my polished engine / trans and it still looks like the day I had it polished. I also used it on my stainless grill, and my huge amount of copper fence topping that I custom patina'd with acids- three years later it looks the same. you just wipe it on with a microfiber, let it dry, do a couple of coats, done. stuff is not cheap but it is worth price paid. you only use a little so a small container goes a long way on a bike. a quart is plenty.

I coated my polished forks but the coating is microscopic and does not hold up to road debris, so over time any small pits will penetrate the coating, oxidize and you'll need to buff / recoat. but 2/3'rds of my forks never need polishing now (sides, back etc).

Seems to be ok, the little lights don't weigh anything, so not much pull on the tape...I also ran a bead of clear silicone on the back side edge of the tape/light..

LA Dog sounds like you had the time of your life man haha. Yes it is a beautiful place in more ways then one. Did you stop in at my old home town on the Gold Coast?

That's funny you mention that metal protectant, that just made me realise I have a full new bottle of that Wizards Power Seal sitting on the shelf waiting to be used! Lol. Meant to seal all metals. Thank you! I'm going to give that a try

I probably hit your town- can't remember them all but I went to everything from Bondi up to Noosa, Surfer's Paradise, Early, etc ending up in Cairns. I woulda stayed longer but heck my visa ran out.. lol

Not familiar with the Wizards but AFAIK there is nothing else like the protect-a-clear product. here is the FAQ page, see if their product sounds like yours. the really odd thing is it's not sitting purely over the metal like poly, urethane, etc- it is sort of bonded into the metal and rather unique. https://www.everbritecoatings.com/ProtectaClear.htm

Surfers paradise is the heart of Gold Coast. it's a pretty laid back country

This power seal I got is meant to bond into the metal also. Brass ***** Cycles recommended it. They use it on their bikes they build and send around the world. Looking at their mega dollar high quality built bikes I'd imagine they wouldn't use anything that didn't work well

I've tries a little bit on bare steel I cleaned up on a bike part that I had on a bike for months. It was subjected to rain and high humidity and it didn't show any signs of surface rust starting. I was really amazed to say the least as usually bare steels starts rusting within a day or two here. so I'm guessing on aluminium it should work a treat
If it doesn't by some odd chance, I'll give that protect-a-clear a go thanks man

The first of the parts I'll need for the Duece dash/speedo-multi gauge mod....and the last part needed for the BDL belt drive/30T trans pulley mod, which I hope is done by the week end!!!

Well I dropped off the bike today, a little snag popped before the indy started, I need to get a 68t rear pulley to use temporarily until my 70t comes in with the wheels. The belt adjuster is almost all the way back on this bike, and there probably wont be enough adjustment left with the new 30t trans pulley....I don't care to much about the looks, since it'll only be on for 7-8 weeks, hopping to find a cheap take-off or something, just want to find it fast so I don't hold up the job...Tim, the indy, said he would go ahead and do the rest of the work, so once I get the pulley, he can finish.... still a slim chance it works with the stock 66t, but I want to be ready if it doesn't..... gonna start shopin now!!
