Softail Factory Wide Tire Kit
This thread is for all those who chose to believe that wide was here to stay. Back in 1998 HD offered a "Softail Wide Tire Kit" OEM 43684-98.
Please post your pics. I didn't have digital camera back then. I'll try to dig some pics up and scan them into digital format. For Now, I only have a side view...

70 Tooth OEM pulley (black) OEM 40217-79A
65 Tooth OEM pulley (black) OEM 40312-94
The 70 Tooth pulley uses a 132 tooth belt (HD OEM# 40023-86)
The 65 Tooth pulley uses a 130 tooth belt (HD OEM# 40017-94)
The 61 Tooth Pulley uses a 128 tooth belt(HD OEM# 40246-91) Only 1993 HD Softail 1 1/2" wide
The 1993-2003 up XL883 Sportsters had a narrower 61 tooth pulley OEM 40246-91 (1 1/8" wide) Use of this Pulley/128 Tooth Belt combination will allow a 150/80-16 Wide Rear tire. (OEM #43043-98) on all Softail's. Belt alignment must be checked during installation and proper alignment shims may be necessary under rear pulley per HD specs. I have installed this kit and no shims were needed. The kit came with a new narrower belt guard (top) OEM 60571-98 U will need one or trim the original belt guard. The V-Twin catalog line sells one Pt#VT-27-0242 (65 Tooth Wide Tire). I have driven over 25k miles on the thinner belt/pulley and there were no issues. All Harley Softail's 1984-1986 Use a 30 tooth front drive transmission pulley/sprocket. 1987-1999 used a 32 tooth front drive transmission pulley/sprocket. That part remains in the conversion. See Installation instructions (HD J01185 REV. 1-16-98). The Wide Harley Davidson Dunlop D401 150MM Tire Kit, OEM 43684-98 had a 1 1/8" wide 65 tooth rear pulley and a 1" 132 tooth belt. Now Discontinued and very rare. However the tires, belts, and belt guard are still available. The Dunlop K591 tire is a little more sporty profile and utilizes a softer rubber compound, but very similar in design to the Dunlop D401.

Gone Already...!
Somebody knew what that kit was worth. But you can still get all the parts you need. You just have to purchase them separately. That wasn't a bad buy it now price either...Slightly under what I paid for mine back in '98 with my HD VIP discount!

It had to be a 1" wide belt. Narrower, and any hole shot would have snapped your belt in short order. Is that a stock fender? Most guys dont want the extra expense of new sheet metal, and hiring a custom painter.
Heres a look at my wide kit from behind...I'm still looking for a better pic.

I didn't use a kit on my 94 softail...picked up a 1" or 7/8" belt...not sure what it was an a matching used pulley an put a 170 on the back of my 94 softail. Guess I'm out of style because I like as wide a tire as you can fit...that's the only thing I don't like about the slim S.
