I found a much bigger DETATCHABLE bag with the same basketweave and braids at leatherpro for just a little more $. No lower bracket to deal with. Maybe worth a look see. Just saying.

Factory Deluxe bags worked without any problems with my V&H Longshots and my Samson True Duals (fishtails). I also ran the stock bags without the lower support bars using the CycleVision quick release mounts, again zero problems. I wouldn't try a cross-country trip with them loaded full of tools without those support bars, but they work fine that way for jackets, clothes, food, etc.
And, since you mentioned the sissy bar, I used the HD sissy bar quick release grommets on the CycleVision quick release hardware. This allowed separate removal/usage of the sissy bar separate from the saddle bags. That is how it's set-up in this pic...
