Default Softail Deluxe saddle bags and aftermarket exhaust

I've read this isn't compatible? That can't be true. Anyone with any experience on this?

Any way to avoid a problem? I don't want my saddle bags slinging all over the place. Perhaps an aftermarket piece to keep the bags in proper position?

Did you buy the HD deluxe bags? What bags are you referring to?

Haven't bought them yet, but yes. I plan to get the HD bags designed for the Deluxe.

You could probably rig something up to mount the support to or have the support modified.

(you can look at the instructions on the P&A website too - should give you an idea.)

You could probably also leave it off, I don't think they would flop around too bad, they are fiberglass under the leather.

If I had aftermarket exhaust I'd look for a more practical bag myself...

The bags aren't big, and I know it. But I love that vintage look. And it matches the seat perfectly. Also, that's my reason for the sissy bar for longer hauls.

I found a much bigger DETATCHABLE bag with the same basketweave and braids at leatherpro for just a little more $. No lower bracket to deal with. Maybe worth a look see. Just saying.

Factory Deluxe bags worked without any problems with my V&H Longshots and my Samson True Duals (fishtails). I also ran the stock bags without the lower support bars using the CycleVision quick release mounts, again zero problems. I wouldn't try a cross-country trip with them loaded full of tools without those support bars, but they work fine that way for jackets, clothes, food, etc.

And, since you mentioned the sissy bar, I used the HD sissy bar quick release grommets on the CycleVision quick release hardware. This allowed separate removal/usage of the sissy bar separate from the saddle bags. That is how it's set-up in this pic...
