Default Axel Nut Cover is Stuck

So I bought this bike earlier this year and I'm starting to take things apart to restore it to how I want it. The front wheel has a very slight bend on it I need to get fixed. Problem is is that just about every nut and bolt on this thing is either over tightened, under tightened or stripped completely...It's been fun so far.

Anyone have any advice on taking this damn Axel Nut Cover off? I don't mind if I have to break the damn thing but just in case anyone has a better idea I'd like to hear it. It looks like the inside of this thing is stripped out.

Drill out the set screw and then move it back and forth using a pipe wrench. It will mess it up but you'll get it off.

I just fixed the same problem on my swingarm bolt cover. As already said, DRILL IT. Start small and work up the drill size as you go. I was able not to screw up the threads and reused it with a regular bolt with a head. I put the head at the blttom and cant be seen.

If you do not want to damage the cover.
Try some heat from a soldering gun to the allen bolt set screw.
Done just in case some thread locker was used.
Then tap a Torx bit into the set screw.
Someone probably used an incorrect allen and deformed the set screw.
Not much torque on that set screw.

I just fixed a Moen kitchen faucet exactly the same way.

Tap a Torx bit in the stripped allen set screw, it turned right out.

(poor mans easy out/ bolt extractor).

An Indy buddy of mine cringes every time someone brings in a bike with all those chrome bolt on goodies. He says it's unbelievable how many set screws and allen bolts have been overtightened or the hex damaged by the ham-handed owner worrying about the parts falling off. I turned him on to these screw extractors that actually work.

They really work best by using a small crescent to put light pressure on it while tapping the end of it with a small ball peen. The shock from the ball peen helps loosen plus keeps the tool seated in the damaged hex.
