Default Breakout sissy bar issues

Does anyone know of an "off the shelf" solution to the terrible horrible no good breakout backrest?
The sissy bar is just too far forward, pushes my wife into me and gives her zero room back there. I have already taken the pad off as I read some people on here have done, but I'm hoping for a more comfortable solution for the wife.

I did find these side plates - but 600 dollars for two side plates is ridiculous!

Any help is appreciated!

HD sells adjustable, detachable side-plates also. Not cheap either though. They might help, kind of wish I would have got them also, I went with the not adjustable detachable ones and it is a little tight.

Thanks for the reply!
I did see those too - just not sure if they would help enough to justify the cost. The bottom of the bar is still going to be in the same spot.
I just can't believe there aren't more options out there, I know there has been plenty of complaining about them.
Maybe I just have to have something made...just driving me crazy!

H-D fatboy detachable sissy bar, stretched to fit the BO fender. No complaints from the little lady. Plenty of room between us and she can actualy lean back on the pad.

Well that's and interesting option I hadn't thought about.
Did you have the OEM before this? Just wondering how much difference it made....

I had to take the pad off too, to make more room between us. She was in my back pocket and I hated it. I wondered if she'd be uncomfortable with a bare bar but she's never complained. I guess she doesn't lean on it, just puts her butt against it and sits up. But I agree, very poor design.

Oh...my wife is 4'11" and weighs about 100lbs, so anyone back there with some size, I don't know how they do it.

No, I saw that thing and immediatly started to look for other options. I can take some measurements if you want.
